It was Thomas Jefferson who said “Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing. “, and indeed that was the IID mantra this year. Always strive to be busy, always aim to bring more IID goodness into the lives of its members, always endeavor to continuously improve the IID brand within the industry. And now as 2011 takes its final breaths it is inevitable that we do a review of the year and take into stock all that has transpired. And what a year it has been! We have grown in leaps and bounds, achieving goals that we have been planning for quite some time. Indeed we are making massive strides in becoming the professional body that its members has worked so hard in trying to achieve.
It was a year where we said farewell to old friends and welcomed new members and faces onboard. Bernice Holly who has been with the IID for more than 4 years announced in May that she will be pursuing her dream of living and traveling abroad. The last time she checked in with us, she was doing great and was finding her feet on foreign soil. The IID thanks her for the valued contribution that she has made to the institute and wishes her all success for the future. We also welcomed Stefan Blignaut onboard as National Secretary. Coming from a background in NGO’s and the arts he quickly settled in and is using his skills and never-say-die attitude to help the institute to obtain its vision.
Most notably the IID has achieved a fantastic 12% increase in membership, reduced the waiting period for processing of applications and refined its membership strategy thanks to the hard work and dedication of the IID team. This is staggering increase, especially in these difficult financial times, and we would once again like to extend a warm welcome to all of the new members. Of course we will never forget our valued members who have been with us through thick and thin, it is due to your valued support that the IID is able to achieve the heights it reached this year. Thank you to each and every one of you.
And of course there has been many memorable highlights throughout the year. From launches to workshops, parties to exhibitions, the IID was there every step of the way aiming to bring you, our valued member, the best of everything. We started with a bang in 2011 bringing you the Nemeth Trend Report in March, a world class report and trend forecast of what is coming and how it should be adapted to suit the African Landscape. Of course the first half of the year saw the IID being represented at the Decorex Trends and Tastes exhibition in Durban and Grand Designs amongst other things. The second half of the year was dominated by CPA workshops as well as Decorex, and we ended it off with a Christmas party in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal respectively. Of course there were various regional meetings and launches scattered throughout the year. 2012 promises to be even more exciting, so please have a look at the 2012 calendar feature in this newsletter. We also added a 2011 highlight package to the newsletter, a perfect way to reminisce on all things fabulous.
The national office will be closing its doors on the 7th of December for a well deserved break and we will be returning revitalized and full of vigor to tackle 2012 head on on? the 16th January. We wish all of the IID members a blessed and peaceful festive season filled with joy, laughter and good cheer. Be safe if you are traveling and rest to be ready for a fantastic 2012.
Warm regards,
The IID National Office. |
