PRESIDENTS LETTER   IFI INTERIORS DECLARATION   FEEDBACK TO MEMBERS
As the year is winding down we reflect on what has come to pass with an enormous sense of pride and satisfaction. It has been a year in which the IID has grown in leaps and bounds, not only in membership but also in service delivery and the continual bettered membership strategy. This can be contributed to various elements that the IID have implemented over the past 15 months to ensure that the organization not only becomes a truly national based institute but also to ensure that we achieve our main objective of gaining and retaining a larger percentage of the Interior Design Industry. The IID also has, for the first time, a dedicated full-time team in the National Office that strives on a daily basis to build the institute into the professional body that its members, and the National Council, has worked so hard at trying to achieve. With such a tremendous year behind us the future looks bright and extremely positive.

It is the nature of Humankind not only to use spaces, but to fill them with beauty and meaning. Skillfully designed spaces can arouse in us a sense of purpose, or a sense of the profound. In the spaces that are important to us, we experience not only a sense of place, but a sense of who we are, and what we can be. Thoughtfully designed spaces help us learn, reflect, imagine, discover and create. Great spaces are indispensable for great creative cultures. They encourage connections between people, ideas and entire fields of thought. As design professionals, our knowledge enables us to form spaces that respond to human needs. These human spaces are the domain of our competence, our passion and our work. We use space responsibly. We practice our profession with highest regard for engaging the world's economic and natural resources in a sustainable manner. We design for health, safety, well-being and the needs of all.

The IID in conjunction with our ‘legal team’ at Wright Rose Innes had the pleasure of visiting all of the regions in October to present CPA Workshops. The aim of the workshops was to enlighten members on how to negotiate the new CPA legislation that came into effect earlier this year. We also discussed the new up-to-date service agreements that are available as a benefit to our members.

IID Van Dyck Carpets   IID featured designer   2011 Loerie Awards
We have changed our logo to green not just to uphold our commitment to the environment but also to attract the younger generation. The green is a trendy, bright colour which represents the energy and fresh spirit of the youth and thus the new wave of modernisation that has hit Van Dyck. Our new logo represents a strategic direction for Van Dyck. It is our goal to ensure that environmental concerns shape every aspect of our strategy and action. It is our intention to be at the forefront of environmental responsibility and ensure that we leave a legacy of a clean and sustainable environment to our future generations. Moreover, we have refreshed the font type, removed the diamond and the new logo will become a prominent feature of our branding.

Unfortunately, at the time of going to press, we were unable to obtain any information from our professional members. This invariably means that this month we will not be able to feature any of our members. A real pity, as this space is created for you as designer to brag, introduce and share with the rest of our membership base. So once again we call on our members to make use of this benefit. Should you want to be the first designer to feature in the IID Insights Newsletter contact me, Stefan Blignaut, at national@iidprofessions.com and I will be happy to work with you to create a captivating feature showcasing the best of what you have to offer. Congratulations to all Loerie winners announced at The 33rd Annual Loerie Awards in Cape Town on the 19th of September 2011!

All winners can be viewed on the Loeries website, along with winners press release and Official Rankings.

SUMMER TEMPTATIONS   FEATHER SCATTER CUSHIONS   JOIN THE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER
Think juicy red watermelon slices, lush green grass, bright yellow bikinis, turquoise water mirrors, amber glowing braai coals and pink sunset skies. Think about the visual delights that entice us out of the warm hug of our home and into the adventures of summer. Then think about the wet sandy beach towels scattered on family floors, the floral colour bursts in crystal vases and the scents of summer that we welcome through open windows and doors. Summer is a boundary-less season, a time when we turn our lives inside out.
