Problems with Council submissions?
The IID is receiving feedback from interior designers that they are unable to submit drawings for approval to Local Authorities (city councils) if they are not registered professionals with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP). The IID feels that this is a threat to the discipline and may prevent interior designers to practice. The IID will act to defend the discipline and in preparing the defense will assist any interior designer (including non-IID members) who is prevented from submitting drawings for approval.
Designers who are affected my contact the IID office via e-mail on national@iidprofessions.com
Please supply your name; project type (e.g. shop interior; residential etc.), size (in square metres) and scale (new building, alteration, fit-out); the date of attempted submission; the Local Authority (and office if applicable); and the expected building cost.
We appeal on our members to not submit under the supervision of registered professionals, as this may be against SACAP's code of conduct. |

One of my favourite treats growing up was my daily exploration of the toy box at the nursery school that I attended. To a small boy the box was mountainous and the sheer amount of toys to choose from was both portentous and exhilarating. With choices unlimited I could allow myself to be swept away by the current of imagination to be washed up on shores where my creativity and mental agility knew no bounds. After all, the most important aspect of a developing mind is play.

The friendly city lived up to its reputation on the 17th August when they hosted the Eastern Cape regional meeting in their trademark welcoming and gracious manner. This mid-morning meeting was a perfect platform to touch base and re-invigorate our members in this region. There was a great turnout consisting of members as well as non-members, and the IID Executive Manager, Madelaine Biezanek, flew down to host the event.

Give a home owner a wall - he will paint it a fashionable colour. Give the same wall to an architect - he will punch a window in it. Give the same wall to an interior designer - the designer will dress the window and add lighting to the picture. Now, give that exact same wall to lemon.decor and they will transform it into a floor to ceiling piece of art.
