Grand Designs Live in association with
BBC Lifestyle and Freeworld Coatings set
the captivating scene for the showcase
of the innovative IID House presenting
the products and talents of our
professional, corporate and founding
members. The spectacular home was
erected in the Interiors Area of the
Grand Designs Live exhibition at the
Coca Cola Dome from the 21st – 23rd May
2010 and attracted more than 7000
members of public and the interiors
industry.
The life size home
in which the IID (the South African
Institute of the Interior Design
Professions) set five of their top
designers the task of designing a room.
Sponsored by Freeworld Coatings, the IID
pushed the envelope of décor innovation
by designing the interior of the house -
five designers, seven rooms and seven
amazing design concepts. The IID House
consisted of a lounge, dining area,
kitchen, two bedrooms, study and a
bathroom.
The Interior Designers who used
their exceptional talents to create the
interior of the IID House from scratch
were Sharon Nicolaci of Spegash
Interiors, Deborah Garth from Deborah
Garth Interiors, Krysia Back from Back
Interior Design, Leigh-Anne Shillaw of
Simple Abundance Projects and Bernard
Burger of House of Baxburg.
The IID would like to thank our
tremendous designers and sponsors who
made this pioneering concept a reality….

Deborah
studied
interior
design
at
Boston
House
College
School
of
Design
in
Johannesburg
after an
illustrious
career
in
Contemporary
Dance.
“As a dancer, stage set design always fascinated me and I think this is what led me into Interior Design. The sheer magic of creating from a negative space intrigued me and opened my eyes to an even greater sense of creativity”.
Deborah
qualified
with
honours
and in
early
1992;
Deborah
Garth
Interior
Design
was
established.
Now in
its 18th
year,
Deborah
Garth
Interior
Design
continues
to
succeed,
in the
commercial
world,
high
impact
design
and pure
efficiency
are all
important
to that
caliber
of
client.
Residential
is far
more
subjective
because
“a
variety
of
emotions
are
involved
and a
closeness
to my
clients
becomes
essential”.
“Knowing
of
materials
and an
understanding
of
elements
which
effect
these
materials
are
tantamount
to an
everlasting
design
as is
the
appointment
of a
highly
skilled
contractor
with
which to
realize
the
design”. |
